The short answer: Standard custom shirt orders take about 7–10 business days door to door: a free digital proof within 24 hours on business days, 4 business days of production once you approve it, then 2–5 business days in transit by UPS or USPS ground. Rush production cuts the press time to 2 business days for a flat $50, any quantity — about 5–8 business days door to door.

Rush orders compress that to 5–8 business days for a flat $50. Here's how the clock actually works, what you control, and how to hit your date without paying rush every time.

The clock, honestly

Every custom-shirt order has five stages:

1. Order placed — you check out, pay and upload artwork
2. Free digital proof sent — within 24 hours on business days (often much faster)
3. You approve the proof — the actual clock on production starts here
4. Production — 4 business days standard, 2 business days rush
5. Shipping — UPS or USPS ground with tracking, usually 2–5 business days (free on orders of $50 or more, $12 flat below). There's no expedited option at checkout — need overnight or 2-day air? Email orders@harborsideprint.com before you order and we'll quote it.

Rush turnaround — when you need it in a hurry

Rush production is $50 flat, any quantity, any method. Not per shirt — one flat fee. That gets you:

• Your free proof within 24 hours on business days, as always
• Production within 2 business days of proof approval, instead of 4
• The same UPS or USPS ground shipping as every order, usually 2–5 business days — rush covers production, not shipping

What actually delays your order (and what you can control)

Delays YOU control

• Slow proof approval. The production clock doesn't start until you approve. If we send a proof at 10am and you reply at 4pm the next day, that's 30 hours lost. Approve as soon as it lands if it looks right.
• Bad artwork files. Low-res JPGs, screenshots, phone photos of a logo — we can work with these, but they force us to redraw or ask for better versions, which stalls production. Send vector (AI, EPS, SVG) or high-res PNG (300 DPI at print size) whenever possible.
• Multiple revision rounds. Two revision rounds are included free, but every round takes 4–24 hours. If you know 3 people need to sign off, get all their input before requesting changes.
• Design decisions mid-order. Changing garment style or color after production has started resets the clock. Lock decisions before you order.

Delays WE control (and manage tightly)

• Wholesaler stock issues. Rare, but if a specific size/color is temporarily out at our blank supplier, we swap to the nearest equivalent and note it on your proof — usually costs zero days.
• Digitizing new logos. One-time step for a new embroidery order. We do it in-house, usually within 24 hours.
• Machine capacity during peak season. April–June (summer camp / event season) and October–December (holiday gifting / merch) are busiest. We'll always tell you upfront if capacity is tight.

Real-world timelines

Restaurant staff tees (15 pieces, screen print)

Ordered Monday morning → proof Tuesday → approved Tuesday afternoon → production Wed–Mon (4 business days) → ships Monday → delivered Wednesday on a 2-day ground lane, or as late as the following Monday on a 5-day lane. 7–10 business days total.

Team event shirts (40 pieces, DTF, full-color)

Ordered Wednesday → proof Thursday → approved Thursday → production Fri–Wed (4 business days) → ships Wednesday → delivered Friday on a 2-day ground lane, or the following Wednesday on a 5-day lane. 7–10 business days total.

Corporate embroidered polos (24 pieces, new logo)

Ordered Monday → logo digitized and proof sent Tuesday → approved Tuesday → production Wed–Mon (4 business days) → ships Monday → delivered Wednesday to the following Monday (2–5 business days in transit). 7–10 business days total, with digitizing free at 24 pieces.

Rush (24 event tees for a Saturday event, ordered the Thursday before)

Ordered Thursday with rush → proof Friday → approved Friday → production Mon–Tue (2 business days) → ships Tuesday → delivered Thursday on a 2-day ground lane. 5 business days, $50 rush fee. On a 5-day lane it would arrive after the event — so for a hard date, email us before you order and we'll quote overnight or 2-day air.

When to order — hitting real deadlines

Event apparel (color wars, races, festivals)

Order 3–4 weeks before the event. That gives you buffer for revisions, avoids the rush fee, and lets you focus on the event itself. Inside 2 weeks, add rush — $50 cuts production to 2 business days.

Summer camp staff apparel

Order 4–6 weeks before opening day. This covers new-logo digitizing (one-time for the year), gives you time to review the proof carefully, and lets us keep artwork on file for late-hire additions with no quantity-minimum penalty (our only rule: a $20 order minimum).

Uniform reorders (existing logo on file)

Order two weeks out for standard, or about 8 business days out with rush. Because we already have your artwork, the proof goes out quickly and production starts as soon as you approve it.

Corporate holiday gifting

Order by mid-November for reliable pre-Christmas delivery. December orders often work but rush becomes more likely as peak season compresses capacity.

Contractor / crew uniforms

Order 2 weeks before your season starts. If you're outfitting new hires mid-season, single-piece additions have no quantity-minimum penalty (the $20 order minimum still applies) — plan for 7–10 business days from order to arrival.

Free ways to move faster

• Send print-ready artwork. Vector or 300 DPI PNG. If we don't have to redraw or ask for better files, we can skip a round.
• Approve proofs the same day. Most delays live in the approval loop, not production.
• Lock design decisions before you order. Style, color, placement, sizes — nail them before submitting.
• Skip weekends in your countdown. Business days matter. A Friday order really starts Monday.
• Reorder existing designs. We keep artwork on file forever — a reorder skips setup and digitizing, so the proof is quick.
